Rebates: SMUD, PG&E & Federal Credits for Heat Pump Replacement

The upfront cost of replacing a system is real. So are the incentives available right now to offset it.

SMUD customers — which covers most of Sacramento city and surrounding areas — can access rebates on qualifying heat pumps, smart thermostats, and high-efficiency AC equipment. On the federal side, the Inflation Reduction Act tax credits for qualifying heat pump installations are still in effect. These are separate from utility rebates — which means they can stack on top, not instead of.
